Curriculum Vitae
Maria Eugenia Carlotti was born in Turin in 1950. She received her Chemistry Degree at the University of Turin in 1973. In 1986 she became Associate Professor of Cosmetic Product Chemistry. From 1986 to 1993 she was Secretary of the Specialisation Course of Pharmaceutic and Cosmetic Topic Preparations and from 1994 to 2002 she became Chief of the same Course. From 2005 up today she has been teacher in ECM Courses for pharmacists about dermocosmesis topics. In 2006 she became Full Professor of Cosmetic Product Chemistry. Nowadays she is member and teacher of the Doctorial School in Science and Advanced Technology Specialisation in Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is member of AFI, ADRITELF, SICC, CDTEC.
Her research activity is attested by more then 120 publications.

Research interests:
Our research activity concerns the development of cosmetic formulations such as O/W, W/O/W and liquid crystal-stabilized emulsions aimed to modulate the release of active substances to the skin; the stability and photostability of actives introduced in different systems; the optimization of micro- and nano-sized formulations such as microemulsions, liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, cyclodextrins and nanosponges; oxidation studies of essential fatty acids and of terpens from essential oils and use of antioxidants; study of the photocatalytic effect exerted by TiO2 on the degradation of molecules potentially used in dermatological and cosmetic fields.

Research projects in progress:
Project CIPE 2006, financially supported by Regione Piemonte: "Nanoparticles: from their impact on the environment and human health to safer production and usage (Nanosafe)"


  • Formulation and characterization of topical preparations;
  • micro and nanosized formulations;
  • kinetic studies of thermostability and photostability;
  • in vitro evaluation of oxidation phenomena.

Instruments available:
UVA-UVB lamps, HPLC, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, tensiometer, Silverson and Ultra-Turrax homogenizers, Brookfield rheometer, DSC, particle size and Z-potential analyzer, optical microscope.
